My Favorite DIY Home Projects for 2021

This year brought a lot of unique projects in our home. We made several updates and changes, some were planned and others last minute thrown together ideas. I love to reflect on how far we’ve come and see what we’ve accomplished throughout the year. I’m still thinking about what all I’d love to do for this year so I hope you’ll follow along to see what we are up to around here…. These are my favorite projects for 2021.

Organizing

When starting out a new year I love to organize all the things and this project was more cosmetic to add to the spice cabinet I had created the year before. You can read all about this spice organizing project here; How To Organize A Spice Cabinet. I loved how this simple little project dressed up the cabinet and made it even more functional.

Cabinet Update

This old desk space has always been annoying to me. Without a ton of work and money I wanted to come up with an easy way to update the space and give it a new look. Adding the cabinets and caning really gave this space a whole new look. It was super easy and inexpensive. Here are the details How To Transform A Boring Built In Desk Into A Beautiful, Trendy Bar

Dresser Update

I loved that this project was super easy to complete in a day, I just wanted to give it more character. The two tone paint look was just not my favorite anymore, so I decided to update it with grass cloth wallpaper. I love how it turned out and what a great difference. Office Makeover

So, for sure this was our biggest, most difficult and most rewarding of all. I had a vision for this space for a few years and had a bit of convincing to do because of the amount of work it required. It also was one of those projects that once we started we were wondering what the heck we’d gotten ourselves into. However, we pushed through, did the research and chugged along. Now whenever I walk in the room I smile and say “wow we did this” I mean we made those built ins with now carpentry experience. The faux beams, brick wall and vertical shiplap were the easy parts. You can get the details on each item and how we created it all here  Beautiful DIY Office Update Part 1, and here Beautiful Home Office Update Part 2

Guest room Makeovers

We had two bedrooms in big need of an update. The first was our daughters bedroom. She moved out early in the year so I was ready to give this space a fresh new look and love the crips black and white vibe. The fun wallpaper and updated bedding just brought this room to life. Heres the post with details Simple Tips To Update A Bedroom

This second room had never had an update at all and was the only room in the house I hadn’t painted from the original paint color. I love the vertical shiplap wall and fresh coat of white paint. Here’s how we made it super cozy Tips For Creating Cozy Guest Room

Bathroom Update

This project went from just a small update to a little bit of demo to a whole lot of wow factor. The bathroom originally had a little bead board but I felt like it wasn’t finished. The floor had yellowed and I wasn’t ever happy with the paint color I had selected. So we gave this space a big refresher, We ended up ripping out a huge eye sore cabinet and glued on mirror (that was scary) but I absolutely love how this space turned out! Address Sign

During the summer we started making some outdoor improvements and I thing that will continue into this new year. We created this super cute address sign and I’ve really enjoyed decorating it for the holidays. Just before Christmas we added some shutters and I have more plans to add to the outside so stay tuned. For directions on how we built this address sign you can go here How To Create An Address Planter Box For Fun Curb Appeal

Wow, we were definitely busy last year and it gives me so. much incentive when I look back over the year at what we learned and how much we accomplished. I’m feeling that we have a few more “big ones” ahead as far as my brain is planning. One being the kitchen and the other our master bathroom, both huge undertakings and may take some more convincing. The other and probably first will be our garage. We are hoping to make it more functionally and cosmetically more appealing. I hope you’ll follow along this year again to see what lies ahead.
