Home Decor Trends For 2022

I thought it would be fun to share what the latest trends for 2022 are. However, these aren’t to say whatever you have in your home is outdated. These are just trends and not necessarily saying you have to change out your home. To me whatever you love in your home is important, trending or not. Also, in my research to consolidate some top trends, I found a lot of different opinions and some were kinda strange. So, I decided to find what was most consistent, and realistic in my opinion. Remember many times these are “opinions” and mostly created to lead the consumer a certain direction. Not all the trends work for everyone. One more thing, these are more about decor trends that are easily changeable. If you are building a home, trends are far more important to look at as far as materials like flooring, appliances etc. and require much more research and study.

When it comes to trends, there can be a lot of variations and opinions. I decided to consolidate some of the most common trends and came up with this list.

Mindful Spaces

With the worlds past events, staying at home has been a big change and transition for many people. That stay at home vibe has brought about a love for home and creating cozy, functional spaces that are tied to our personal interests and hobbies. Multi-purposing a bedroom as an office is one example. However, just creating warm, calming looks using nature inspired accents, plants, wood tones and beautiful textiles. The rooms have a more lived in, effortless feel not formal and overdone. Layers and warm lighting give rooms that cozy glow.

Return to Tradition

Back to the natural materials and sustainable products is important for many homeowners now. Repurposing old items and bringing them back to life with paint. Natural materials like marble, wood and linens and mohair to name a few. Items that create a more lasting style. Classic shaped furniture, fewer accessories and clean lines with no distinctive theme is taking shape in many homes.

Materials and Textures

More whimsical and romantic influences in the way of scalloped, fluted and ribbed materials. In table top decor I’m seeing more scalloped plates and bowls along with fluted and ribbed furniture items and accents. These types of accents tend to soften the more modern elements in design these days and offers a more romantic flare to harder edges.

Pattern

When creating spaces many want to customize it and add their own flare. Wallpaper is making a come back and I’m so loving that. However not to the extreme it used to be. Featuring a wall, behind open shelves and small spaces are perfect to add that artsy impact. Textiles, art and rugs are also becoming more detailed in pattern like Turkish print rugs and pillows.

Colors

The spectrum of colors for the trends really seems to vary but one consistency I’ve found is that the direction is going more warm and neutral. The cool grays are phasing out and the dark neutrals and warm hues are really stepping in. Warmer materials like terra cotta, and deep browns along with stone and wood are becoming more popular. Instead of seeing these color palletes just in Fall decor it’s becoming more year round.

Larger Proportions

Accents like lamps and vases are a bit larger in proportion which I love. Using larger scale items in designing vignettes gives impact without adding clutter to a look. Fewer large items are more on trend than adding a lot of small items to an arrangement on a table or console.

Kitchen Furnishings

Adding artwork and lamps to the kitchen creating cozy arrangements is becoming very popular. Less clutter on the counters but more purposeful in decor and accenting a space.

What’s out:

Ok don’t kill the messenger here and I’m not listing these to say you have to get rid of them. I am sharing what is showing a trend out in case you are wanting to make changes or updates to your home. However, like I said earlier everyone needs to do to their home what makes them and their family happy. So by all means keep your home in a way that you love…

  • Cheap replicas (the real deal, repurposed is better)
  • Shiplap (boo- however vertical shiplap is still strong)
  • All White kitchens (white cabinets are still strong, just more woods and contrasting colors to warm them up a bit)
  • All Grey interiors (again think more warmth)
  • Boho style( I never got into this trend too much)
  • Harsh Metals

If you are wanting to make some updates, select any of these suggestions and make small changes incorporating a few things here and there. It’s amazing what just a small update can do for a room. Repurposing items in spaces is another low cost way to give rooms a whole new look.

I hope that was helpful and somewhat encouraging. I have several posts on styling ideas like this one Simple Steps To Restyle And Refresh A Bedroom, and many more to come. Be sure to subscribe to my weekly newsletter to stay updated on all the latest posts and thanks for following along!

  5. In the last several months, a variety of trends have made their way into the decorating world. Here is a brief roundup.
    • White and neutral tones
    • Oversized or large items on tables and shelves
    • Colorful patterns
    • Natural textures
The best thing about these popular changes is that there are a number of different choices available to choose from, depending on personal taste, budget constraints, etc. Below we offer a few suggestions that will help you set up your home for 2022 — if you take a minute to think through this issue.
If it’s easier to do so in paper form, let us know. In addition, you should come with a color code, a specific color palette or design choice. We would be happy to add them to our list (if necessary).
Note: There may be some slight or major differences between some of these design elements. So please use a bit of discretion when using any “rules” below to make design decisions for each room.
