Yay, the first day of summer has arrived! To me nothing says summer sunshine like cheerful lemons. I created this simple tablescape for a small luncheon with a few Friends. When creating tables I always stick to the same concepts to help me style a look. Here are my go to elements for creating a great table no matter what it’s for:
Theme
Of course in this case the theme is lemons. The best way to get a vision for how you want your table to look is to design it around the even or theme you have in mind. The lemons are perfect for summer and are so easy to work into any decor.
Placesettings
When I’m setting tables I generally work the place settings in layers. I love to start with a placemat and/or charger as my first layer to “frame” the dishes. I always mix up textures and patterns to create more visual interest.. I also love to incorporate black somewhere into my tables. It gives a bit of chic sophistication to any table. Then, I add a fun napkin fold, printed napkin or unique napkin ring to tie in the theme. Finally, accent plates for salads and appetizers are where you can get really creative. I always use our everyday dinner plates but change out the accent plates for more visual interest.
The stripe napkins add another element of pattern to the table. I made the napkin rings with faux lemons I found at Hobby Lobby and attache them tying jute string to the stems. I found these cute lemon plates at the Dollar store.
Centerpiece
I kept the centerpiece very simple since the table is smaller in scale and I wanted a more intimate conversational viewpoint. Once I design my placesettings, then I add the centerpiece to compliment the rest of the table and tie it all together.
This look could be used for so many occasions and is so cheerful and fun. Keep your eye out for unique accent plates when shopping in thrift and dollar stores. You’d be surprised at how many fun patterns for entertaining you can find
