How To Create An inexpensive Pottery Barn Art Dupe

I love doing a project that not only is super easy, but inexpensive. I wanted a new piece to hang in our foyer area and after searching for some art, really didn’t want to pay the heavy price tag. So, I decided to. make my own and I love how it turned out. Come see how simple it is to make your own DIY wall art..

First, let’s see the inspiration pic. This pretty artwork was what I had in mind, however a little out of my price range. So, with just a few supplies I created my own. I love how quick and easy it was too.

Supplies:

  • Frame with glass, size of your choice (mine is 18″x24″ )
  • Handmade paper – source linked at the end of the post
  • Poster board
  • Spray adhesive

Step 1

First, cut the poster board the size to fit your frame. I laid the frame backing onto the poster, traced it then cut out.

Step 2

Measure the paper the size you want that fits your poster board, leaving a border on the poster. Then crease where you want to cut it. However since this is handmade paper, you don’t want to use scissors to cut it or you ruin the character of the papers natural edge. Once you crease the paper, use a little water to dampen the crease. This makes the paper tear a bit easier.

Place both hands on either side and carefully separate the paper at the crease. I only cut one side but if you like a more symmetrical look you can trim all the sides to make it look the same.

Step 3

Next, spray the back of the paper with the spray adhesive and press it onto the poster board.

Step 4

Finally, place the poster board inside the frame and hang your new art.

I love how unique it is, but most of all I love that I made it.

Creating your own art is a great way to add a personal touch to your home. Last Spring I made a wreath dupe from one I saw at Anthropology and it was super easy. You can read all the details on it here How To Create This Anthro Dupe Spring Wreath

I’ve been doing several home decor refresh projects around the house since Christmas. Be sure to check out all my posts and make sure you are subscribed to the blog to stay up on all the latest posts.
