Simple Steps To Restyle And Refresh A Bedroom

This is definitely the blah time of year for me. It’s so hard because the sparkle and glam of the holidays is over, the weather is cold and dreary and the house feels a little bare. For me, creating keeps my energy up and making some small updates refreshing spaces is just the perfect solution. I made some easy and inexpensive updates in our bedroom that lifted my spirits so much. Here are some ideas for making small updates in your bedroom.

First let’s take a look at the before. There’s nothing that’s particularly wrong about the room, just a few little things I wanted to do to freshen it up. Here are some things you can do to change a space and make some small improvements.

Idea 1

Window treatments are a great way to update a space. There were a few things wrong with these and I’ve never been happy with how they looked. The first problem is that I hung them way too low. The secret to getting a designer look to windows is to hang them high. It gives the appearance of a taller, more elongated window. The rods were temporary that I had spray painted and were starting to chip off, plus they seemed too “wimpy”

So I bought more substantial gold rods and rings. I replaced the much too short curtains with easy to make drop cloth curtains and instead of a panel on just one side, I added a panel to each side of the window. This gave the appearance of a larger window and added more drama to the room.

You can see what a difference this small changes made to the space and what a perfect way to update on a budget. Drop cloth no sew curtains are simple and inexpensive. Because they already have a hem and finished edge, you just fold the top over, clip with curtain rings. They have a great neutral texture as well.

Idea 2

Updating the bed frame was another great way to upgrade our bedroom. I just never could find a bedskirt that didn’t look cheesy and really like the more tailored look of an upholstered bed. We completed this project in an afternoon and it was so easy ( to create and on the budget) You can read all about that project here How To Create An Upholstered Bed Frame

Idea 3

Upgrade your bedding. This was a fun partnership with JcPenney and I love every item. Their prices really are amazing and they have such a great selection. I started with some new cozy flannel sheets, a beautiful channel stitch coverlet and shams and a new linen duvet and insert. That fluffy new insert makes our bed look so lush and cozy. I have all the items linked at the end of the post. Then I finished off the look with some pretty fur decorative pillows.

Idea 4

Pretty lighting can make all the difference in creating ambiance in a bedroom. The wall lights were just too crowded near our headboard and too high. We removed the wall lights and relocated them to either side of the dresser mirror, then added some beautiful artisan lamps which gave a warmth to the side tables.

Idea 5

New decorative accents can also give new life to a space. They don’t even have to be new. Shop your home and change things up a little. Bring in items you’ve never decorated in the room with before. It feels new when it’s styled in a new space. I added these pretty vases with some winter greenery stems to keep it fresh and seasonal.

Overall I love how just simple updates gave this room a more classic, tailored upgrade. We didn’t have to spend a lot of money to achieve this refresh either.

I can’t believe what how cozy and inviting it feels just making those few little changes.
