I find if I try to utilize those basics, throwing a table together is pretty easy. Element #1

Mixing formal and casual

For this table theme I really wanted it to be pretty but not so fancy that no one wants to sit there. So for the place settings, I mixed our everyday dinner plates with an accent plate from our formal china. The white and gold scallop charger anchors the two pieces and gives a nice shape to frame the plates. I went with a more casual cloth napkin, but the stemware is our formal crystal.

Element #2

Sweet and whimsical touches

I always like to add some bits of nature and an unexpected trinket or surprise at every place setting. With this table I made these precious bird nest napkin rings and I think they are the star of the table. They are super easy to make too.

Supplies needed:

  • Mini bird nests
  • Wooden rings ( I think wider rings would be better but this is all I could find)
  • Mini Bird’s eggs
  • Spring greenery such as fern, maiden hair, or any delicate stems

First, I spray painted my rings a champagne gold to dress them up a bit. However, you don’t need to do this. The natural wood would look pretty as well.

Next, cut approximately 2″-3″ stems for your nests. I cut 3 per nest.

Then, glue the greenery on the bottom of the nests and the little eggs inside the nest.

I used some leather pieces to glue on the back to make the nests more sturdy. If you have wider rings, you can probably skip this step. Felt pieces would work too.

That’s all there is to it. Such a pretty way to dress up your napkins and add some Spring vibes to the tables.

Element #3

Mix of textures

Even though the table is mostly neutral, the mix of textured items gives it more depth and acts like a pattern on the table. The macrame table runner, to smooth wood chargers, the dotted dinner plates and the touch of greenery all complete the look in harmony together but don’t look over done. The secret is keeping it monochromatic with a pop of spring green.

For the centerpiece, I placed the left over fern down the center of the runner and added a glass cloche with a larger bird nest inside to tie into the theme of the table.
