How To Create A Beautiful And Fun Boho Themed Party

Last weekend I had the pleasure of hosting a sweet 16th birthday party for a dear friend’s daughter. I thought a boho themed party would be just perfect to make it pretty and still “hip”. I wanted it to look sophisticated but not feel too dressy, elegant but casual. So I decided to pair pretty flowers and chic touches using cozy cushions and a casual low key table. I love how it all turned out and what a wonderful evening it was. Here are my ideas for creating a beautiful boho themed party

Before I started I needed to know what the birthday girls’ favorite colors were. Then from there, I knew I could run with the theme and a vision. The best thing about the colors she chose is that they were flowers I already had on hand. We hosted my son’s wedding here at the lake a few years ago and it was a boho theme. Many of these flowers and items were leftover from that. Here’s the post on the wedding Ideas for an easy & inexpensive rustic outdoor wedding

I collected all the flowers and succulents I could from my craft decor supplies. I knew I wanted to have the centerpiece done ahead of time so it could just be placed on the table. I decided to use this old galvanized chicken feeder because it’s casual and perfect for outdoors. I love that it is long and narrow and a great shape to place on a table.

Also, I knew I wanted some candlelight and twinkle lights since it would be set up outside. First, I placed the candles at various heights in the feeder, then I arranged the flowers in various shapes, styles, and colors. Once I had the flowers in place, I filled in the spaces with faux succulents for a boho themed party look.

Next, I wanted to make some fun party favors. When I throw a party or host a gathering, I love to make something special for my guests. It needed to be something that would fit in just right with the rest of the decor. I’m a big “theme” person so this is just part of the plan when I put a party together.

Making homemade beauty products is one of my favorite things to give as a favor. So for this little gift I made lavender goats milk soap, lavender/bergamot bath soak and lip balm. You can find my lip balm recipe here Beautiful Homemade Gift Ideas, and how to make the soap here How To Make Homemade Soaps You can get the lavender tags from the free printable page if you subscribe to my blog.

For the presentation of the goodies, I used natural berry baskets and tucked the goodies in making it pretty with a fancy tag and embellishing with paper flowers to coordinate with the table.

The tags are so easy to make and give such a unique look. I used this metal stamp kit to label the soaps and tied them on with burlap ribbon and twine.

For the menu, we served her favorite, pasta with a salad and then I made these pretty individual bread loaves for each place setting and displayed them on mini wood boards (all sources are in the Shop the post link)

Once the bread was made, I wrapped it in parchment paper, tied it with a string and embellished with a fresh rosemary stem.

The vision I had for the cake was a simple, yet elegant naked cake. I baked 2 strawberry cakes and sliced them in 4 layers to make it tall. Then lightly frosted it adding fresh eucalyptus and baby.s breath to dress it up a bit. The topper was ordered on Amazon.

I just love how it turned out and it was so delicious. My daughter did most of the decorating and I’m so proud of how hard she worked on it. I see cake decorating in her future.

As a before dinner treat my daughter made this gorgeous charcuterie board. It was delicious and super easy to do ahead of time.

For the table, my husband made this simple pallet topper and then we used landscape stones for the base. I wanted it low to the ground so we could sit casually on the ground. We put a rug down to give it more style and make it more comfortable.

To finish up the centerpiece, I placed a macrame runner down the center, added the floral arrangement then finished off by tucking in 2 varieties of fresh eucalyptus and some baby’s breath.

When I create place settings I like using lots of layers and texture. I started with a jute place mat and a burlap charger. A loosely tied pink fringe napkin gave it a feminine flare but still casual. In the center of the plate I placed the bread loaves. I love how they added a unique look and were part of the meal. Then I placed a succulent plant and the party favor basket next to each place setting.

We created a pretty chalkboard sign and dressed it up with some matching faux flowers to welcome the birthday girl. Lanterns with candles gave a pretty ambiance with all the over head lights and created a pretty grouping.

In spite of the extreme Texas heat, we had a great time and enjoyed sharing lots of memories and making new ones.

I think the beautiful birthday girl was surprised and enjoyed it!

Overall this was a very simple party to put together. The most important thing about creating a party is to have a theme, plan plan plan and do things ahead of time so you can also enjoy your guests. I try to do as much ahead of time as I can.

The lake setting of course didn’t hurt either! This theme would also be perfect for a bridal or baby shower or a birthday for any age. I love how flexible it can be based on color selection. The combination of casual and elegant makes it a comfortable gathering too.
