How To Create A Welcoming Summer Porch

How to create a beautiful summer porch

They say first impressions are important and so is curb appeal. So, it only makes sense to spend a little time making your entrance a happy and welcoming space. Whether you have a small or large area, there are a few elements everyone can use. I have some favorite things I always include in my porch decor. All you have to do is change is seasonally. So welcome to our house let’s take tour….

Here are the 5 elements that are my go to’s for decorating my porch…. they can apply to any season but I just finished the summer porch so hopefully you will find some summer inspiration…

# 1 Welcome mat

I love to layer door mats. It’s a fun and easy way to give your door mat a little personality. Here I layered a plaid rug underneath a basic mat to give more character. I think the plaid also adds some casual whimsy for a summer casual feel.

#2 Door Decor

I think adding your first item of decor is perfect on the front door. It shows your style, what might be expected inside, your likes and creativity. All the things just by the piece on the door. The least expensive way to make a change and big impact is just with the front door.

This oval grapevine wreath was super easy. I purchased the wreath, fern bunches and the ribbon all from Hobby Lobby. It was all probably under $20 (1/2 off)

#3 Welcome Sign and or house number

I chose to use both. I love my sign and change them our seasonally. They are made by one of my favorite sign makers from the Etsy shop Simply Inspired Design Co. We just used a masonry drill bit to make a hole in the stone, added the hooks and then put eye hooks on the sign to hang it.

We recently just made this house number planter box y’all it was so easy and I’ll put a post together on how we made it. I love that it’s different and fresh color can be added to it. I see so many seasonal options for this in the future too.

#4 Potted flowers and plants

In the summer I love to used Boston ferns. The are such a magnificent filler and have that fresh summer feel. Ours do well all the way into fall . This year I used, lime green, orange and purple as my colors. I love how they pop against all the neutral backgrounds. I also like to use different items to plant them in like this galvanized bucket. Baskets are also beautiful (just be sure you line them)

#5 Lighting for ambiance

I love having lanterns on my porch. I put battery operated candles in them that are on a timer. I set them to go on at dusk for a few hours. It adds the prettiest glow to your entryway and a great way to to give some ambiance to the whole space. You can also string lights on a railing or around your door for added light.

I hope you enjoyed my ideas on how to create a beautiful summer porch. Most of all use colors and items that represent you and your home. Let people know a little about you just by your decor. It’s just another way to express yourself and bring character to the home.
