Neutral Winter Home Tour

Happy New Year friends! I hope you have your best year yet!

There’s just something so great about starting off a new year with a fresh clean slate. I absolutely love Christmas decor and I’m always sad to take it down. But I have to say once it’s down, I get excited about decorating fresh new spaces, purging and organizing. For some quick tips on ways to beat the winter blahs in your home, you can read here 5 Ways To Beat The Winter Blues In Your Home

I’m so excited to be a part of this home tour with these amazing ladies and their gorgeous homes. My hope is that it will give you some inspiration & ideas for decorating your own spaces.

The cold winter months call for cozy, snuggly spaces. I love using a lot of texture and cozy soft fabrics to make each room inviting and warm. I’ve gone with a white, woodsy theme throughout the house adding some pretty greens to cheer up the inside in contrast to the brown, dreary outdoors currently. I’ve included sources to many of the spaces for your convenience.

For the front door I made this pretty hanging arrangement using a basket as the base to bring the warm woodsy tones and some birch wood to add a tall anchor in the back. Then I just tucked in various greens mixing frosty, icy pieces with soft green eucalyptus and lambs ear. The little snowball garland was from a section I had on my Christmas tree. I saved a piece to bring in some fun winter elements. You could also use large pom poms and dust a little glitter on them to add some sparkle.

Great Room

Our home is a very open concept with a solid wall of windows that look out to the lake, so keeping things simple and consistent throughout keeps the room feeling cozy and cohesive. My furniture is very neutral, so I added a lot of texture and layers to bring more interest to an otherwise colorless space. Bringing in soft greens really adds the warmth to the room as well .

On the console table, I kept some of my mini flocked trees, wood slices and large pine cones to add the woodsy element to the vignette. For tips on styling a console table, you can visit this post here Tips On How To Style A Console Table

I also kept the flocked wreaths on the shutters to anchor the frosty trees and keep another element of nature and texture to the room. The soft greenery on the scale coordinates with the other pieces of greenery in the room.

To create a cozy feel in the room, I added several different textiles and fabrics to give a more layered look and add interest to the neutral tones. In addition, the shades of creamy whites keep with the winter “feels”.

This large dough bowl is filled with winter branches, antlers and some frosty pinecones. The pretty white pitcher brings in the farmhouse feel, a pop of white and houses beautiful paperwhites. I love bringing flowers into my home in the winter. Paperwhites and white tulips are not only cheery, but they give you a glimpse of a little spring fever to come.

For the mantel I’m sharing two different ideas for a winter theme. The first is very “icy” winter look. There is not much color or warmth to it, but the feel is very soft and clean. The battery operated candles add that warm glow that takes the place of Christmas lights. That’s what I miss most when the holiday decor goes away, so these take the place quite nicely.

The second option I added more warmth by deepening the shades of the greenery, adding the deer head for more texture and glamour, then added the large pinecones for the depth and warmth. The candlesticks in a darker warmer shade tie the look together. I love the fullness the eucalyptus adds to the entire arrangement.

For the dining room table I have two different settings to share with you. I added this gorgeous macrame runner for the texture then kept with the neutral theme using black & creme. I layered with black chargers, my every day dinner plates in creme, then layered 2 napkins to introduce another pattern. The little snow balls are a fun detail to give the winter theme. To me, nothing adds warmth and coziness to a space more than candles. I added battery operated remote candles down the center to give a warm feel and anchored them with some frosted greenery. The table is quite simple, but by using various textures, you can create a cozy space without adding a lot of “fluff” to it.

Then I decided to add a little more bulk to the table by introducing a fuller piece of garland down the table. I like the look of more greenery to soften the look with my dark table and all the black and it adds a bit more drama to the table.

For the next table setting, I dressed it up a bit more by adding some fresh tulips and kept the place settings soft by layering a creme charger with a creme plate. To tie in some of the black, I added a buffalo check napkin. Pages from an old book and one single tulip add a sweet touch to the basic place setting.

For the centerpiece, I popped in some tulips and placed a few on the greenery. Candles add the touch of warmth and romance to the table.

In the kitchen, I decided to stay crisp and white and take advantage of the natural woods, and then add pops of greenery. I love how sweet the paper whites look in the window in simple white pitchers…and they smell like a hint of spring!

For our bedroom, I kept with our soft white and grey tones but introduced some muted greenery for depth and warmth and some sweet blush pink. I loved having the Christmas greenery in our room so when I put it all away I was missing the pop that the greenery gave the room. A few textured pillows and a fluffy blanket are all you really need to add that winter cozy feel in a bedroom. I love how this blush warms up the space and is a nice compliment to the neutral room without compromising the neutral feel I love.

I love adding faux flowers in a vase and vintage books for side table accessories. Having a touch of nature in your room creates a soothing spa like feeling and makes the setting feel more romantic.

I love your home. I am in the process of renovating my kitchen and have an open floor plan much like yours. I have black granite counter tops in kitchen with a castle gate back splash and dove white cabinets. I’m having such a challenge working with the black and white. I’m getting new vinyl woodfloor planks and am struggling with the color. I love your color and curious as to what color your floors are?
    Thank you

      Hi Kristin,

The plates are from a home based business that I used to work for called Southern Living at Home. Unfortunately they are no longer available. Total bummer because I would love more. I’m still searching for something similar but haven’t found any yet.
Thanks so much for following, I really appreciate it.

Your home is very lovely! If you wouldn’t mind sharing. I would love to know where you found the sign above your couch and window.

    • says:

      Hi Jen,

Thank you so much. I found the sign at an antique flea market. I think it used to be part of a twin headboard. I painted and stenciled it to look like a French sign. Thank you so much for following along.
