How I updated my laundry room & I'm sharing my homemade laundry detergent recipe.

Let’s face it, there’s just nothing fun or glamorous about doing laundry. So making the space as pleasant as possible makes it a little more appealing! Here’s how I updated my little laundry room…

I mean who really enjoys laundry? So, we might as well make it a pretty and organized space if we have to be in there all the time-at least it seems like all the time!
I’ve never had a large laundry space before, so with this house I have a new space located in a perfect spot, but gets more foot traffic passing by.  This means, I want a space that I’m proud of and I enjoy spending time in. I wanted a clean, simple, cheery atmosphere so I stayed with a soft color pallet.

Here’s how it looked before:{previous owners}

I was looking for something fun, yet soft and happy. I found this awesome buffalo check peel and stick wallpaper from Target. It’s a great option if you want to be non-committal, however a bit more difficult to hang compared to regular paper. I painted the cabinets a soft neutral grey color from Sherwin Williams . A few fun wall accessories completed the look.

I’m very pleased with how the new laundry room turned out

The screen door was a piece I picked up years ago at my favorite flea market. I brought it from our old house and knew it would be perfect as our laundry room door. It’s fun here, because you can even see it from our front entry on the other side. The little cabinet is permanent, so I just added a few scraps of the paper to the drawers to jazz it up. And that marble counter top?… nope not marble, it’s marble look contact paper slapped on top of the formica already there. Fake til ya make friends!

This armoire is my office. I needed a space where I could have my paperwork, computer and craft items but didn’t want to take up a whole room. This is the perfect catch all when I walk in the door with the mail, and I can close the doors and no one knows what’s behind them! My family laughed when I said I wanted that space for my office, but it’s worked out quite nicely!…plus I feel like the laundry room IS my office anyway!

I love using homemade ingredients for my household products. Besides being healthier for our home, they are more effective and economical. I put together this laundry detergent recipe after researching several options on Pinterest. I’ll be honest, the homemade liquids did not work out great for me. This one gets my laundry so clean and smells wonderful.

Homemade Laundry Detergent Recipe

{all of these items can be found in the laundry isle}

INGREDIENTS:
1- One 4 lb. box of Arm & Hammer baking soda
2- One box of Arm & Hammer super washing soda
3- One large container of Oxy Clean
4- One large box of Borax (I think it’s about 4 lbs.)

INSTRUCTIONS:
1- Grate the Fels-Naptha bars into a bowl {I used a cheese grater but you could use a food processor, its faster!}
2-Using a very large container, like a bucket or jar, lined with a garbage bag
3- Mix all the ingredients into your large container and mix up by shaking or stirring.
4- Store in a large container. I used an extra large jar I purchased at Walmart.
