Beautiful, Neutral Outdoor Decor Inspiration

Outdoor living is upon us and I’m here for it!! I created this mood board to give you some inspiration and a head start on items to stock up on to style your outdoor spaces. Designing outdoor spaces can seem daunting but it you think of them as just an extension of your home its so much easier. Let me share some of my tips to help you get started…

Let me share some of the go to elements I consider when designing outdoor spaces….

Area Rug

Just like inside, outdoor rugs are perfect for grounding and creating a cozy space. It’s an easy way to bring in texture and design too. This is the one I bought for one of our spaces and I love the pattern.

There are so many beautiful and affordable options for outdoor seating. Just be sure you know the size and area you have to work with and then create an effortless and comfortable seating arrangement that works for your space. I recommend keeping your cushions neutral and use pillows and decor for adding color. You’re less likely to tire of it and will get longer use out of a solid, more neutral cushion. Also, check for furniture that comes with covers to protect it during bad weather . (I’ve learned this the hard way!)

Coffee Table or Fire Table

Adding an element for people to gather around is important for outdoor spaces. A coffee table for housing your drinks, games and other items, or a cozy fire table for summer evenings give the ambiance and perfect accent for a seating area.

Lanterns for Ambiance

Lanterns with battery operated candles give that summertime (or any time) ambiance that set the mood and extends your time outside. You can add lights with timers and remotes to easily turn them on and off. I like the extra detail lanterns add to the outdoors.

Planters and Plants

Of course planters and plants are a must have. I’ve linked a few of my favorites. This tall ones are on my front porch and I love the extra drama they add. If you’re not a green thumb, you may like this. Did you know there are special faux outdoor plants? These geraniums are a great option if you want no maintenance. However nothing beats the real thing, so add lots of color and greenery if that’s your thing.

Adding pillows and throw blankets are the perfect way to add more color, texture and pattern to your spaces. I love all the texture in these and the cozy vibe they add. Of course if you love lots of color, this is the place to have fun with our decor. Throw blankets are a great way to stay cozy on cool weather evenings.

I can’t wait to show you our space all finished in real life. I will be revealing it soon. This Texas spring wether has made it difficult to get ready and I need to finish it up and photograph it. So hopefully this gives you some info to grab your favorite items then come back see and our space fully styled. Be sure to subscribe to my weekly newsletter to stay up on all the latest posts.

I’m glad you mentioned rugs in the article. They play an important part in bringing a room together, and that’s no exception outdoors. If you love to entertain outdoors, having a rug on the deck or patio provides a nice place to sit, and can make the area look more pulled together. They can define an outdoor space or bring indoor decorating elements into the outdoor space. Great decor idea!
