Have you ever had bacon jam? If not, you’re missing out and you must hurry and try this recipe. It takes so many items to the next level of yumminess. We enjoy ours on a burger but you can also have it with eggs and toast, as a snack with some cream cheese and crackers and more. It’s simple to whip up a batch and would make a fun hostess gift as well. Here’s the homemade bacon jam recipe we love.
- 1 large sweet onion, quartered and thickly sliced
- 1 lb bacon
- 1/2 c Brown Sugar
- 1/2 c water
- 1/3 c strong brewed coffee
- 1T balsamic vinegar or glaze
Cut the bacon into 1/2″ slices and add to large frying pan. Cook about 10minutes then remove with a slotted spoon.
Pour out bacon drippings but save 1 tablespoon. Add the chopped onions and cook about 10 minutes then reduce heat to low.
Add the sugar and stir. Continue to cook until onions have caramelized, about 20 minutes
Add the reserved bacon, coffee and water then increase the heat to. medium. Continue to cook stirring every 5 minutes until the onions are thick and jam-like.
Remove from heat and stir in the balsamic vinegar. Salt if necessary .
Use immediately or refrigerate for up to a week, Bring back to room temp for serving. There will be little spots of white fat when you remove it from the fridge but they will disappear as it comes to room temp.
Sounds yummy huh? I love it on a burger with sautéed mushrooms and blue cheese crumbles but the options are endless. You can also try my Jalapeño jelly recipe here How To Make Jalapeño Pepper Jelly It’s so delicious with cream cheese and crackers.
