Are you a DIY’er or have you wanted to try some projects but not sure if you can? Well, let me say that yes you can! We never used to take on big projects ourselves but when we bought this most recent home, we decided to try a few. We started with some basic projects and it’s blossomed from there. Today I’m sharing some of my most favorite and simple home DIY projects that were pretty simple to do with some patience and the right tools.
Vent Hood
I really wanted to update our eye sore vent hood and this project was one of our first in the home. It was surprisingly simple and inexpensive and wow what a difference it made. I love the warm wood tones and texture it adds to our kitchen. You can learn all about it here How To Build A Vent Hood Over An Existing Cabinet
Updated Painted Stairs
This project is a more recent one and after we completed it I wondered what took us so long. I was more afraid of the tear out and what condition the stairs would be in. We weren’t sure what to expect so the demo was a little nerve wracking. Once we deconstructed it all, the project itself was pretty easy. We did this makeover in 2 stages. We started wit the stairs then later added the board and batten. Corner Built In
We have such a weird spot for our TV and I really didn’t like how it looked on the furniture piece we were using. Because it’s a corner space and the ceilings are so high, I wanted it to be more substantial . However, finding a pre made corner unit to fit this space was impossible and to have one built was way too expensive. So we decided to build our own. This project was pretty intimidating when we first started, but once we figured out a plan and started, it went pretty smoothly . I love how it turned out. Wood Beam Mantel
This by far is the most popular and asked about item in our home. We built this mantel surround around the existing one and then lightened up the stone. We did it for very little money and it’s such a statement piece in our home. We also did the same look in our bedroom fireplace and it adds so much character to the whole room. Here is how we built them and what you need to make your ownFabulous Fireplace Makeover and here Simple Ways To Update A Fireplace
Barn Door
This is the second barn door we have made and I love how this one turned out. The rich warm wood and beautiful hardware added such a great statement to our whole bedroom. You’ll be surprised how simple it was to make. You can learn how to make one here How To Build A Simple And Beautiful Barn Door and this style here How to change a builder grade door into a barn door
