It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas….. But this year it seems to be taking me forever. It’s a weird year anyway so not surprising. So since my current decor is in process and hopefully complete this week, I thought I’d share last years look. I love decorating for Christmas and all the process that goes into it. However, I know for many people it can be very overwhelming and daunting. My wish is that you will gain some inspiration and ideas for your own home. Also, remember that these photos are staged for photography purposes and our house is not always this perfect. I hope that this will be helpful for you to get some ideas to add to your decor and that I can help in some way to help you create a look or find a source for something. So, welcome and come along for my 2020 holiday home tour…and stay tuned to see all the changes I made for 2020.
For this years theme, I had a vision of just beautiful greenery, soft creamy, cozy accents with pops of black. I’m calling it a Rustic Chic theme. Each year I decorate I change up the theme a little reusing as much as I can, sometimes changing things out, using different items. I don’t necessarily use all the decorations I have every year. Sometimes i repurpose things to different places. I then will add a few new pieces here and there depending on the years budget and what I’m able to spend.
Front Porch Welcome
The front door/ porch is definitely the best place to start when decorating for Christmas. It’s the first thing people will see when they enter your home and it’s fun for your neighbors to enjoy the view. Creating a space that says “welcome” in a festive way puts people in the holiday spirit before they even enter your home.

This year I stayed with all natural items found in the yard. I clipped various pines, holly stems and collected some pinecones to arrange . I created these urns with birchwood sticks and then stuck some various branches and embellished with berries and pinecones.
Great Room
The mantel is where I started creating the theme for the rest of the house. You can visit this post here Ideas To Decorate A Christmas Mantel on how I put it all together and created the swag above the mirror. Layers of rich faux greenery, berries, antlers and pinecones make up the look of this space. The candles give such a beautiful warm aglow at night.I love how the cable knit stockings give such a cozy feel to the design.

Our main tree is flocked and it’s about 7 feet tall. The room is about 20′ high so it can easily dwarf the tree. I really wanted some kind of wow factor. I wanted a warm, rich base and thought a nice warm would would be beautiful to house the tree. My husband brought my vision to life building this beautiful box “surround” and I stained it with a dark walnut. Behind the box it’s elevated on a turned over large wash basin.
When decorating I always start with the largest ornaments and work in a zigzag pattern. Then I incorporate patterned and textured pieces. I added pinecones from the yard and used mixed metals as well.
Luxurious ribbons in a rich green velvet and birch ribbon give a simple elegance. To give a rich green look to the tree I added some eucalyptus and pine stems. Pops of sparkly black ornaments bring in the accents from the rest of the room.

On the entryway table, I added a green swag spotlighting a pretty deer head with gold antlers. Rich wood candlesticks and birch candles, alongside a wooden lantern give warm light and ambience to this are of the room.
Shop The Entry Way
On the staircase I added layers of rich cedar garland and dressed it up with some creme satin ribbon, eucalyptus and white berries. Large pinecones draped with a clustered swag of various greens give some drama and character to the end of the banisters.

Shop The Arrangements
I love using wooden bowls for making arrangements using greenery and pinecones. I just made mini versions of collections similar to the mantel decor.
These sweet little galvanized houses make the best arrangements in a collection together. I just placed these into a galvanized tray and tucked in some greenery. Little fairy lights inside the houses light up the space with a pretty glow at night.
Kitchen
In the kitchen I wanted it to still feel bright and warm so I kept it simple and clean. Spotlighting a few areas with rich pine wreaths gives a festive feel without crowding the rest of the decor.
I used my open cabinet to highlight a holiday display of mini houses and trees. Arranging different heights and varieties of trees helps to make it less cluttered and more of a styled collection. I also added some of my holiday plates for display.
Simple ceramic bowls and pitchers are a perfect container to add a simple small tree and beautiful vintage ornaments. I also love to use glass canisters as little snow globe arrangement just placing in some faux snow and bottle brush trees.

Bedroom
With our rich gray wall and soft neutral bedding I wanted to keep that calm soothing feel but add some pops of red. I wanted a festive feel without being over cluttered or busy. I added these pretty plaid pillows that are flannel and oh so cozy. Rosie thinks it’s pretty cozy too!
I kept the mantel simple in this room with a mix of bottle brush trees, a soft flocked wreath surrounded by an empty frame and hung some vintage ornaments above to give a little sparkle.

Bathroom
In the bathroom I just added simple touches of flocked greenery to add a festive feel without overdoing or cluttering the space.
I hope you enjoyed the tour. You’ll see some changes for this year and I definitely changed up several things. If you want a fun and simple wreath idea you cant check out this post How To Make A Simple Hoop Christmas Wreath

I love everything you did!!!
I couldn’t get it to “pin”.
Hi BJ,
You are so kind to comment and thank you so much. I’m not sure why you can’t pin because it’s working on my end. A pin should show up if you hover over the top left corner. Let me know if you still have trouble.
Thanks and Merry Christmas,
~deborah

I love the decor in your home, especially all the beautiful greenery and Christmas tree- how stunning! When my kids were younger, they always wanted to put up so many Christmas decorations, but now that most of them are moved out of the house, I’m going to take it easier this year. I think it will make decorating a less overwhelming task. My favorite part of decorating during the holiday season is getting all of myupholstery cleaned, fluffing up the holiday pillows on the couch, and taking a nap after all of the decorating is complete!!
I love everything you do…can’t stop looking…I even made a board just for Hip and Humble !!!!
Hi Kathi,
That is so sweet of you thanks for the kind feedback. So happy you are here!
xoxo Deborah
