I love decorating for Christmas. Last year I was working full time and did not enjoy the season very much. Everything seemed like a hassle and too overwhelming for me. I kind of went about the motions without my usual enthusiasm. Since my career path has recently changed, I have really enjoyed every aspect of Christmas this year. I made several changes in my decorating and put more thought into gift giving, wrapping and have taken time to really enjoy each tradition. With two kids no longer at home, I added a tree & gingerbread decorating family night where we could all take time together creating and decorating.

I’ve also made a lot of decor changes in my house, softening the colors and taking away the Old World detailing. So, changing my Christmas decorations was really fun…

I have always wanted a flocked tree so this year I went for it. I searched everywhere and found one I liked online on from Wayfair. It was kind of risky to buy it without actually seeing it in real life but when I opened it I was so thrilled at the quality and detail. Best purchase of the season!

This is the centerpiece on my living room coffee table. I added a lot of artificial snow and antlers in many things this year. I like the natural element it brings to the decorations.
The dining room looked so different this year with all the soft, neutral color especially the chair covers.
I updated this centerpiece by painting the toolbox vintage white, the greenery seems to stand out better this year.
I love having fun with my large foyer. It’s the first place people see when they walk in the door so I like to have something that really stands out. this year I added the reindeer above the mirror.
I don’t collect many things, but somehow I started collecting Santa’s about 20 years ago. I hate spreading them all over the house because it feels too cluttered. I like to keep them all in one place. That way you can see all the variety and they tell more of a story.
I did a very winter natural centerpiece on my kitchen table so that I can leave it out after Christmas and still have some festive winter vibe.
I did the same idea on my family room coffee table. Although I’m not loving my family room that much anymore, it’s about to get a makeover when my new sofa arrives in January. I did add the shutters on my mantle this year and I love how it turned out. The painting is from my artist brother and I never take it down, so I need to find more natural items to focus on around it.
Because I do my own tree in our living room, our family room tree is filled with generations of ornaments from my father, my own childhood and my kids. They still get an ornament from me every year. I have so many they don’t all fit on the tree every year.
They way the lighting in my kitchen is, I can never get a good shot of the garden window display. I love these little snowmen and can keep them out even after Christmas is over.
I have this cute window with the vintage skates hanging in the powder bathroom.
I’m not thrilled with how these pictures turned out, they don’t do the entryway outside justice. It’s much prettier at night when it’s all lit up
Since our winters are so mild, we still enjoy our back patio so I like to take the Christmas decorations out back as well. This year I put our old Christmas tree outside under the covered patio with some pinecones and berries. It looks great seeing it lit up from the kitchen window.
