Beautiful Homemade Gift Ideas

Hey Friends, how are you doing? Hopefully staying well. With all this stay at home recently, I’ve been up to so many projects. One of my favorite things to make are homemade beauty products, especially for gifts. I always love putting gift baskets together, so I put this pretty theme together perfect for Mother’s Day, teacher gifts or even bridal shower party favors. This year’s them is all about flowers. I sure wish this post could be a scratch and sniff because wow do all these pretties smell yummy

Here are the items I’m adding to this gift basket:

Bath Soak

Supplies: (product sources at the end of the post)

  • 1 cup Epsom salts
  • 1 -1/2 cup Himalayan salt
  • 1/2 baking soda
  • culinary grade  ground lavender
  • essential oils of your choice- I used 12 drops of lavender,
  • container of your choice

Epsom salts are great for soaking sore muscles, detoxing, and relieving inflammation.

Himalayan salts are also good for detoxing the body. and relaxing muscles.

Baking soda softens the skin and adds a nice texture to the soak.

To make the bath soak, combine all the dry ingredients until well incorporated. Then add your essential oils and mix well. I used,

Lavender(12 drops), Geranium(6), Bergamot (5), rosemary(2) You can play with the fragrance based on your own preferences.

Homemade Soaps

Supplies:

  • silicone molds in shape you want
  • honey glycerin soap base
  • essential oils of your choice- I used lavender & rosemary
  • culinary grade lavender and flowers

I’ve made several types of soap and have another post here How To Make Homemade Soaps with a great variety of fragrances.

First, cut your soap base into cubes, place in a glass bowl and melt in the microwave for 30 second intervals stirring in between. It should take only 2  minutes total to melt the base (Be careful the bowl will be hot). Then add your essential oils. I used lavender (10-12), orange (3-5), rosemary (2) oils and then added a pinch of fresh lavender. I also placed some flowers in the mold first then poured the melted mixture into the molds and wait for them to cool. It doesn’t take too long for them to start hardening up.

Then package your soaps however you’d like. I wrapped mine in parchment paper then a ribbon and placed a label on the ribbon to hold it closed.

To embellish the packages, I hot glued pretty pink flowers to the jar lids. I will link the printable labels at the end of the post

Flower Shortbread Cookies

This is such a pretty and unique touch to the basket. I used my favorite basic shortbread recipe. But you could always use even store bought sugar cookies. Then you will need some culinary grade (edible) flowers. I have some linked at the end of this post.

Once you’ve created your dough and chilled it about an hour, roll it out and place your pre pressed flowers into the dough and roll lightly. I used a 2″ scalloped round cookie cuter and lightly pressed a circle to see where I wanted to place my flowers.

Once the flowers are lightly rolled into the dough, cut your cookies and place on a parchment lined cookie sheet. I sprinkled a little sugar on top to give them some sparkle.

Then bake at 325 for 12 minutes. Let cool and package as desired. Aren’t they just so pretty?

Next I added these homemade garden markers using a wood skewer, and a wine cork then wrote the names with sharpie. I also tucked in a pretty package of wildflower seeds. You could also add pretty garden tools and gloves as well.

I also embellished the pot with some pretty faux roses, just hot glued. You could have your kids paint the pot or add any other embellishments you want.

To package every thing you can use a pot, galvanized bucket or basket to present all your goodies. I just spray painted this terracotta pot white and painted some watercolor flowers to add color. The other container was an older galvanized pot I had that was already white. You can find so many options for packaging everything and display it however you want.
